What is colour PPF on a Defender?

Colour PPF is paint protection film with the colour built into the film. It changes the look like a wrap, but it is thick, self-healing urethane, so it also protects the paint from stone chips and scratches like clear PPF.

That matters on a Defender. The car is used on highways, gravel and sand, and the new colour has to survive that. A thin vinyl wrap chips and fades; colour PPF is built to take it.

How we turned a black Defender Sedona Red

Every painted panel was covered in Sedona Red film, laid and squeegeed by hand, with edges worked so the black does not show at the gaps.

On a Defender the hard areas are the flat door panels, where any flaw shows, the bonnet edges, the side vents, the handles and the rear quarters around the lights. The rear Defender lettering and the side vents are worked around individually.

The headlight surround shows the change best: black before, Sedona Red after, with the film worked tight around the light.

Colour PPF, vinyl wrap or respray on a Defender?

Colour PPF is the only option that changes the colour, protects the paint and can be reversed. A respray is permanent and stays on the car’s history; a vinyl wrap changes the colour but gives little protection.
