What is matte or satin PPF on a Defender?

It is the same thick, self-healing paint protection film as clear PPF, but with a satin top layer instead of a gloss one. Fitted over the whole car, it changes the finish from shiny to soft sheen, while doing everything clear PPF does: stopping stone chips, sand and light scratches reaching the paint.

Matte and satin are often used for the same low sheen film. On a Defender it gives the look of the Carpathian Edition, Land Rover’s top specification model with a satin exterior.

How we gave a Defender 110 the Carpathian look

The car arrived as a standard specification 2025 Defender 110. The core of the job was full satin PPF over the original paint, then gloss black exterior details and blue accents on the brake calipers and rear tow hook to complete the Carpathian identity.

Satin film shows every flaw in the fitting, because there is no gloss to hide a joint or a stretched area. Each panel is laid as one clean sheet where possible, and edges are wrapped so no gloss paint shows at the gaps.

Gloss, satin or colour PPF on a Defender?

All three protect the paint. The difference is the look, and whether the colour changes.

How much does satin PPF cost on a Defender?

How do I look after a satin Defender?

• Never polish or wax satin film; it will create shiny patches.
• Use a pH neutral shampoo made for matte finishes and soft mitts.
• Rinse sand off thoroughly before any contact wash, and avoid automatic brush washes.
• Clean bird droppings and fuel spills quickly so they do not mark the surface.
• A ceramic coating made for matte finishes adds protection without adding gloss. Ceramic coating starts from AED 2,500 before VAT.
