How does Apex handle the hardest parts of a Defender?
Carefully, because the Defender is flat, wide and full of details. Flat panels show any line in the film, and the car takes more stone hits than most because of how it is driven.
- The bonnet: one of the largest flat panels on any SUV. It is laid as one sheet where possible and wrapped around its edges.
- Door edges and sills: film is wrapped around the door edges, and the lower doors and sills are covered because that is where gravel and sand hit.
- Lettering and vents: the DEFENDER lettering on the bonnet and the side vents each get their own trim work.
- Window surrounds and roof pillars: covered so the roof and pillars are protected along with the body.
- Accessories: light bars, spoilers and body kit parts are fitted and protected in the same visit, so the film and the parts line up.
What does Apex do before any film goes on?
Every Defender is inspected, washed, decontaminated and checked under studio light first. PPF locks in whatever is underneath, so the preparation decides how the finished car looks.
We check the factory paint with you and record any marks. The car gets a full foam wash, including the roof, grille and wheels, then a clay bar decontamination. If there are swirls or chips, the paint is corrected before film. Film patterns are cut on our plotter for the exact car.
