A black BMW M2 arrived at Apex Detail Studio with a poorly installed PPF. This is what to look for.

This black BMW M2 came to Apex Detail Studio in Dubai after a PPF install done elsewhere, and the walkround shows what a bad PPF job looks like: lifting edges, visible cut lines and poor fit around the badges, handles, mirrors and trims. If you are choosing an installer, these are the signs to check before you pay.

What was wrong with this BMW M2?

The film on this M2 had been installed poorly. In the walkround, Gaurav points out edges that do not sit down, cut lines on the panels, and gaps around the badges, handles, mirrors and window trims.

These problems are common when film is trimmed on the car or rushed. See another example in our bad PPF job on a Range Rover.

How do you avoid a bad PPF job?

Ask how the film is cut, look at finished cars in person, check edges around badges and handles, and ask what happens if an edge lifts. Precut patterns avoid blades on the paint. Read our best PPF installer in Dubai guide and what is precut DAP.

Can a bad PPF job be fixed?

Usually yes. The old film is removed carefully, any adhesive is cleaned off, the paint is corrected where needed, and new film is fitted properly. Full body PPF starts from AED 11,000 depending on the film, before 5% VAT, and removal is quoted after inspection. See our BMW M2 CS full PPF for a proper install.

Frequently asked questions

What are the signs of a bad PPF job?

Lifting edges, visible cut lines, dirt or bubbles trapped under the film, and gaps around badges, handles and trims.

Why do PPF edges lift?

Edges lift when the film is not wrapped or sealed properly, or when it is stretched too much during installation.

Can bad PPF damage the paint?

Trimming film on the car can leave blade marks, and poor removal can pull paint. Proper removal avoids this.

Can a bad PPF job be fixed?

Yes. The film is removed, the paint is cleaned and corrected, and new film is fitted.

How do I choose a PPF installer in Dubai?

Look at finished cars in person, ask about precut patterns and edge work, and ask what the aftercare covers.
