DAP precut PPF is paint protection film cut by a plotter from XPEL’s Design Access Program, a pattern library for nearly every make and model, so the film arrives shaped to your car and no blade touches the paint. At Apex Detail Studio in Al Quoz, Dubai, we cut every XPEL install with DAP. Full-body PPF starts from AED 12,000 for sedans and AED 13,500 for SUVs and trucks (colour PPF from AED 15,000), depending on options, before 5% VAT.

What is DAP precut PPF?

DAP stands for Design Access Program, XPEL’s proprietary software for paint protection film patterns. Precut PPF is film that has been cut from those patterns on a plotter, so each piece matches a specific panel of a specific model before it is installed.

The DAP library covers nearly every make and model, from family SUVs to supercars and electric pickups. Each pattern is designed around the real shape of the panel, including badges, sensors, washer jets and vents, with the right amount of film left over at the edges for wrapping where the design allows.

The result is film that fits like it was made for the car, because it was. Installers do not need to cut film on the car with a knife, which removes the biggest risk to your paint during installation. For the full picture of how film is fitted, see our step by step guide to the PPF installation process.

DAP is also why two installations of the same model at Apex look the same. The pattern sets where every cut line and edge sits, so the quality does not depend on who happened to hold the knife that day.

How does DAP precut work, from pattern to panel?

The installer selects the car in DAP, chooses the coverage and adjusts the pattern if needed, then sends it to a plotter that cuts the film. The cut pieces are then applied to the matching panels after the paint has been prepared.

  1. Select the vehicle: make, model, year and body style, because bumpers and trims change between versions.
  2. Choose coverage: anything from a front-end package to full body, or single parts such as door edges and handle cups.
  3. Adjust the pattern: extend edges for wrapping, join or split pieces, or change cut lines around badges and sensors to suit the owner’s preferences.
  4. Cut: the pattern is sent to a plotter, which cuts the film precisely.
  5. Weed and apply: waste film is peeled away, and each piece goes onto its panel with slip solution and a squeegee.

Because the pattern is digital, the same piece can be cut again at any time. If one panel of film is damaged later, it can be replaced with an identical piece without redoing the car.

What is the difference between precut and bulk PPF installation?

Precut PPF is cut by a plotter before it touches the car. Bulk installation lays an oversized sheet on the panel and trims it to shape with a knife on the car. Precut protects the paint from blade marks and gives consistent results; bulk relies entirely on the installer’s hand.

Cutting Plotter, off the car Knife, on the car
Risk to paint No blade on the paint Risk of knife marks in the clear coat
Fit Designed for the exact model Depends on the installer’s skill
Consistency Same result every time Varies car to car
Badges and trim Usually stay on the car Sometimes removed or cut around by hand
Replacing one panel Recut the same pattern Trim a new piece on the car

Knife damage is one of the most common faults we find when we remove film fitted elsewhere. Our article on a bad PPF job we fixed shows the kind of problems poor installation leaves behind.

Which parts of a car can DAP precut cover?

DAP patterns cover every painted panel on most cars, so precut can protect anything from the high-impact areas to the full body. The most requested parts are the bonnet, front bumper, fenders, mirrors, door edges and door handle cups.

Typical coverage choices are:

  • Front end: bonnet, front bumper, front fenders and mirror caps, where stone chips land on Dubai highways.
  • Daily touch points: door edges, handle cups and the top of the rear bumper, where rings, bags and car park knocks leave marks.
  • Full body: every painted panel, including roof, doors, quarters and pillars.
  • Extras: headlights, rocker panels and other parts exposed to sand and road debris.

Patterns are available for nearly every make and model, but very new or rare cars can take time to appear in the library. If your car is new to the market, ask us and we will check what is available. Our paint protection film service page lists the coverage packages.

Can precut PPF have tucked or wrapped edges?

Yes. DAP patterns can be extended so the film wraps around panel edges into seams and gaps, which hides the film line and seals the edge. This is called a tuck-in or wrapped edge, and we use it wherever the panel design allows.

A wrapped edge does two jobs. Visually, it hides the film, so even up close the panel looks unprotected. Practically, it stops dirt and water getting under the edge, which is how lifting usually starts. In Dubai, where fine sand finds its way into every gap, sealed edges matter more than in a mild climate.

Some edges cannot be wrapped because of the way panels meet or where clips and seals sit. In those cases, the pattern leaves a small, even gap from the edge so the film stays down. A good pattern, adjusted by an installer who knows the car, gets the balance right.

Why does precut PPF matter for cars in Dubai?

Dubai’s heat, UV and sand test every edge of a film. Precut patterns give clean, consistent edges and wrapped seams that stay sealed, and because no knife is used, there are no cuts in the clear coat for heat and moisture to work on.

Summer temperatures above 45C make film and adhesive work harder, and a poorly cut edge that would survive for years in a cooler climate can start to lift here within months. Sand blasting on highways wears the leading edges of the bonnet and bumper, so full, consistent coverage there is important. Frequent washing, often several times a week, puts more stress on any edge that is not sealed.

Precut also speeds up installation, which means less time with panels exposed and less risk of dust reaching the adhesive. Combined with controlled installation bays, this is how we keep films clear and sealed in a dusty city.

How do we use DAP precut at Apex Detail Studio?

Every PPF installation at Apex is cut with XPEL DAP. We assess the car, choose and adjust the pattern, cut the film on our plotter, install it with wrapped edges in controlled bays, then inspect every edge, corner and curve before handover.

  1. Vehicle assessment: we identify the protection zones and any customisation the owner wants.
  2. Pattern selection: we pick the pattern in DAP and adjust coverage and edges.
  3. Precise film cutting: the plotter cuts each piece.
  4. Installation: our in-house, XPEL accredited team installs the film using the tuck-in method to hide edges in seams and gaps.
  5. Final inspection: edges, corners and curves are checked before the car goes home.

DAP works with the full XPEL range, including XPEL Ultimate Fusion, which pairs self-healing film with a hydrophobic topcoat. We used it on our Rivian R1T in XPEL Ultimate Fusion, an electric pickup with large, flat panels and complex trim. Read more about the film in our XPEL Ultimate Fusion guide.

How much does precut PPF cost in Dubai?

Full-body PPF at Apex Detail Studio, cut with DAP, starts from AED 12,000 for sedans and AED 13,500 for SUVs and trucks (colour PPF from AED 15,000), depending on options, before 5% VAT. The exact price depends on the car, the film and the coverage you choose.

What changes the price is the size and complexity of the car, whether you choose gloss, satin or another XPEL film, and how many panels are covered. A front-end package uses far less film and time than full body, and partial packages are available. Precut does not add a separate charge at Apex, because it is simply how we install. The film carries a manufacturer warranty, and our team explains the terms when you book. Send your car’s details on WhatsApp on +971 58 549 2739 for a quote.

Frequently asked questions

What does DAP stand for in PPF?

Design Access Program. It is XPEL’s software library of paint protection film patterns for specific makes and models.

Does precut PPF cover the whole panel?

Yes. Patterns are designed to cover the full panel, with extended edges that wrap around where the panel design allows.

Is DAP only for XPEL film?

DAP is XPEL’s own software and is used to cut XPEL films such as Ultimate Plus, Stealth and Ultimate Fusion.

Do badges need to be removed for precut PPF?

Usually not. Patterns are designed around badges, emblems and sensors, so they generally stay on the car.

What if my car is not in the DAP library yet?

Very new or rare models can take time to appear. Ask us with your car’s details and we will check what patterns are available.

Can a single damaged panel of precut film be replaced?

Yes. The same pattern is cut again on the plotter and installed on that panel without redoing the rest of the car.

Is precut PPF faster to install than bulk?

Generally, yes. With the shape already cut, the installer spends the time on alignment, edges and finish instead of trimming on the car.
