XPEL Ultimate Fusion is a self-healing, high-gloss paint protection film with a hydrophobic topcoat built in, so it protects against chips, scratches and UV while shedding water and dirt like a ceramic coating. At Apex Detail Studio in Al Quoz, Dubai, we have fitted it to a 2025 Lexus LC500 using DAP precut patterns. Full-body PPF starts from AED 12,000 for sedans and AED 13,500 for SUVs and trucks (colour PPF from AED 15,000), depending on options, before 5% VAT.

What is XPEL Ultimate Fusion?
XPEL Ultimate Fusion is a clear, high-gloss paint protection film with a hydrophobic topcoat applied at the factory. It combines the impact and scratch protection of PPF with the water beading and easy cleaning normally associated with a ceramic coating.
Underneath, it is a thick, flexible urethane film that absorbs stone chips and road debris and takes light scratches instead of the paint. The topcoat is self-healing, so fine swirls and light marks fade with heat from the sun or warm water. What makes Fusion different is the surface: it is strongly hydrophobic, so water beads and runs off, taking dust and grime with it.
For owners in Dubai, that means two jobs done by one layer. The film protects the paint from chips, sand, UV and contaminants, and the hydrophobic surface keeps the car cleaner between washes and makes each wash quicker. It comes precut for specific models through XPEL’s DAP software and is installed with wrapped edges for a seamless, near-invisible finish.
How is Ultimate Fusion different from XPEL Ultimate Plus?
Both are gloss, self-healing XPEL films. Ultimate Fusion adds a hydrophobic topcoat at the factory, so it beads water and resists dirt like a coated car, while Ultimate Plus is the classic gloss film that is often paired with a separate ceramic coating.
In practice, the choice comes down to how you want to look after the car. With Ultimate Plus, many owners add a ceramic coating on top of the film to get water beading and easier washing. With Ultimate Fusion, that hydrophobic behaviour is already part of the film from day one. Both protect the paint from chips and scratches in the same way and keep the car in its original colour and gloss.
If you want the standard gloss film explained in detail, read our guide to XPEL Ultimate Plus. We are happy to show both films side by side in the studio.
What does Ultimate Fusion protect against in Dubai?
In Dubai, Ultimate Fusion protects against UV fading, sand and stone chips from highway driving, acidic contaminants such as bird droppings and tree sap, and the scratches and swirl marks that frequent washing leaves behind.
- UV rays: the film shields the paint from the strong year-round sun that fades and oxidises it.
- Sand and debris: the urethane absorbs stone chips and takes the abrasion from wind-blown sand and road grime.
- Acidic contaminants: bird droppings and tree sap, which bake on quickly in heat above 45C, are resisted by the topcoat and rinse off more easily from the hydrophobic surface.
- Scratches and swirls: light marks from washing and daily use self-heal with heat.
The hydrophobic topcoat also matters in a dusty city. Dust that settles on the car between washes does not bond as easily, and a rinse removes more of it, which reduces the scrubbing that causes swirls in the first place.

Is Ultimate Fusion better than standard PPF or ceramic coating?
Ultimate Fusion does more than either on its own: it has the impact and scratch protection of PPF, which a ceramic coating does not offer, plus a built-in hydrophobic surface that plain film lacks. A ceramic coating alone is a thinner layer that adds gloss and easy cleaning but cannot stop chips.
| Feature | XPEL Ultimate Fusion | Gloss PPF without a coating | Ceramic coating alone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stone chip protection | Yes | Yes | No |
| Self-healing | Yes | Yes, on premium films | No |
| Hydrophobic surface | Yes, built in | Limited unless coated | Yes |
| UV protection for the paint | Yes | Yes | Some |
| Warranty | Manufacturer warranty | Depends on the film | Depends on the coating |
A ceramic coating on its own is still a good choice for owners who mainly want gloss and easy washing, and the two can always be combined. For the wider comparison, see our guide to PPF vs ceramic coating.
Who should choose XPEL Ultimate Fusion?
Ultimate Fusion suits owners who want full PPF protection and would otherwise add a ceramic coating on top, and owners who want the easiest possible washing in Dubai’s dust. If you plan to keep the car in gloss and wash it often, it is a strong choice.
It makes particular sense on cars that are driven regularly and parked outdoors, where dust settles daily and bird droppings are a constant risk. It also suits owners who use wash services, because a surface that releases dirt easily needs less scrubbing, and less scrubbing means fewer swirls. Darker colours benefit too, since they show water spots and wash marks most.
It is less relevant if you want a satin or matte finish, in which case XPEL Stealth is the film to look at, or if you plan a colour change with coloured PPF. If you already have Ultimate Plus fitted, there is no need to replace it: a ceramic coating designed for film gives a similar hydrophobic effect on top.

Which cars have we fitted with XPEL Ultimate Fusion?
We have fitted Ultimate Fusion to a 2025 Lexus LC500, a Rivian R1T and a Porsche 911 GT3, among other cars. It suits anything from a grand tourer to an electric pickup, because the patterns come from DAP for each model.
The Lexus LC500 is a good example of why owners choose it. The LC’s long bonnet, deep front intakes and sculpted rear haunches are exposed to stone chips and sand, and its paint deserves to stay original. We corrected the paint first, then fitted precut Ultimate Fusion with full tuck-in edges, without removing badges or body panels, so the film is close to invisible.
You can see the other builds in detail: the Rivian R1T in XPEL Ultimate Fusion and our Porsche 911 GT3 PPF build, which also used Ultimate Fusion.
How do we install XPEL Ultimate Fusion?
We correct the paint first, then cut the film with XPEL DAP precut patterns and install it with full tuck-in edges, without removing badges or body panels. The work is done by our in-house, XPEL accredited team in controlled installation bays.
- Inspection and preparation: the car is washed and decontaminated, and the paint is fully corrected, because the film seals in whatever is underneath.
- Precut patterns: each piece is cut on a plotter from XPEL’s DAP software, so no blade touches the paint. Our guide to DAP precut PPF explains how this works.
- Installation: the film is positioned, squeegeed and heated to follow every curve, with edges tucked into seams and gaps.
- Final inspection: every edge, corner and curve is checked under good light before handover.
Our 20,000 sq ft studio in Al Quoz gives each car a clean, controlled bay, which matters in a dusty city where a single grain of sand under the film would show.

How do you look after XPEL Ultimate Fusion?
Look after Ultimate Fusion like any premium film: wash by hand or touchless with a pH-neutral shampoo, dry with clean microfibre, avoid brush washes and harsh chemicals, and remove bird droppings and sap promptly. The hydrophobic topcoat makes all of this quicker.
Because water and dirt release so easily, many owners find a rinse and a gentle wash is all the car needs. Avoid abrasive polishes, which can wear the topcoat, and check the film edges from time to time. If anything lifts, or the beading seems weaker after a long period without proper washing, bring the car in and our team will inspect the film and advise. Our PPF washing guide covers the full routine step by step.

Frequently asked questions
Does XPEL Ultimate Fusion need a ceramic coating on top?
No. The hydrophobic topcoat is built into the film, so it already beads water and resists dirt without a separate coating.
Is Ultimate Fusion gloss or matte?
It is a high-gloss film. For a satin or matte look, XPEL Stealth is the film to consider.
Does Ultimate Fusion self-heal?
Yes. Light scratches and swirl marks in the topcoat fade with heat from the sun or warm water.
Can Ultimate Fusion be fitted to part of the car?
Yes. It can cover the high-impact areas only or the full body, cut from DAP patterns for your model.
Will Ultimate Fusion turn yellow in Dubai?
It is made with UV-stable materials and carries a manufacturer warranty that covers yellowing. Our team explains the terms when you book.
Do badges have to come off to fit Ultimate Fusion?
No. On the Lexus LC500 we fitted it without removing badges or body panels, using precut patterns and tucked edges.
Can I put a ceramic coating on Ultimate Fusion anyway?
It is not needed, because the film already has a hydrophobic topcoat. Ask us first if you are considering extra coatings, so nothing is applied that is not suited to the film.
