The Ceramic Coating Guide for Dubai Drivers (2026)

Ceramic coating in Dubai is a silica (SiO2) liquid that we hand apply to every painted panel, where it bonds to the clear coat and cures into a thin, hard, transparent layer. It adds gloss, beads water, and helps paint cope with UV, sand and 45C summers. At Apex Detail Studio in Al Quoz we coat cars across the UAE after full paint preparation.

What is ceramic coating?

Ceramic coating is a liquid based on silica (SiO2) that is applied by hand to a car’s paint, where it chemically bonds to the clear coat and cures into a thin, hard, transparent layer. Think of it as a far tougher, longer lasting version of wax, which washes away in a matter of weeks.

Because the coating bonds to the paint rather than sitting on top of it, it does not rinse off with the first few washes. Once cured, it gives the paint a slick, glassy surface that water, dust and dirt struggle to cling to. That slickness is what makes a coated car easier to keep clean, and it is also where the deep, wet looking gloss comes from.

If you want the beginner version with no jargon, our plain English explainer on what ceramic coating is covers the basics in a few minutes.

What does ceramic coating do for a car in Dubai?

In Dubai, ceramic coating mainly helps paint survive the sun, sand and contamination: it adds UV and heat protection, lets dust release more easily, buffers acidic bird droppings and bugs, and reduces water spot etching. It also adds visible gloss and depth.

  • UV and heat. Summer temperatures here regularly go above 45C and the sun is strong all year. The coating adds a protective layer between that UV and your clear coat.
  • Sand and dust. Fine sand settles on every car in the UAE. On a coated surface it releases more easily during a rinse, so there is less rubbing and fewer swirl marks.
  • Bird droppings and bug splatter. These are acidic, and in the heat they can etch paint within hours. The coating buys you time to clean them off before they reach the clear coat.
  • Water spots. Dubai water is mineral heavy. Because water beads and sheds from a coated panel, less of it sits and dries into etched spots.
  • Gloss and depth. Dark colours in particular gain a richer, deeper look.

What can ceramic coating not do?

Ceramic coating does not stop stone chips, it is not scratch proof, it does not repair existing damage, and it does not mean you never have to wash the car. Being clear about this up front saves disappointment later.

  • Stone chips. At highway speeds on Sheikh Zayed Road or Emirates Road, stones and debris hit the front of the car hard. A coating is far too thin to absorb that. Paint protection film is the answer for chips.
  • Scratches. Keys, shopping trolleys and careless automatic brush washes can still mark coated paint.
  • Existing damage. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it. Swirls and light scratches have to be removed with paint correction before coating, not after.
  • Washing. A coated car still needs washing. It is simply quicker and easier, and dirt comes off with less effort.

How does ceramic coating compare with wax, sealant and PPF?

Wax lasts weeks, a sealant lasts a few months, a professional ceramic coating lasts much longer with proper care, and PPF is the only one of the four that physically absorbs chips and scratches. Each has its place.

Protection How long it lasts Look Protection level
Wax Weeks Warm glow Low
Paint sealant A few months Good gloss Medium
Professional ceramic coating Long term with proper care Deep, glassy gloss High against chemicals, UV and contamination
Paint protection film (PPF) Longest of all Gloss, satin or matte Highest, including chips and scratches

You do not always have to choose. Ceramic coating can be applied on top of PPF, so you get the chip protection of film plus the gloss and easy cleaning of a coating. For drivers who do long highway trips or own a car with expensive paint, we often suggest PPF on the front end or the whole car with a coating over it. Our PPF vs ceramic coating comparison goes deeper into that decision.

How long does ceramic coating last in Dubai’s heat?

How long a ceramic coating lasts in Dubai depends on three things: the grade of coating, the quality of paint preparation underneath it, and how the car is cared for afterwards. The same product can last very differently on two cars depending on those factors.

The things that shorten a coating’s life here are predictable. Automatic brush washes wear it down. Harsh chemicals and strong degreasers strip it. Leaving sand and dust on the car for weeks, then wiping it off dry, grinds at the surface. Long hours parked in direct sun with bird droppings baking on the paint do not help either.

Every coating level we offer carries a manufacturer warranty, and our team explains the expected lifespan and the warranty terms for your specific package before you book, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

How does Apex Detail Studio apply ceramic coating?

We apply ceramic coating in seven steps: inspection, full decontamination, machine polishing, a panel wipe, hand application indoors, controlled curing, and a handover under studio lights. Most of the work is preparation, because the coating can only be as good as the paint underneath.

  1. Inspection. We look at the paint under studio lighting and agree the level of correction with you.
  2. Wash and decontamination. A full wash, iron fallout removal and clay treatment take off everything bonded to the paint.
  3. Machine polishing. We remove swirls, haze and light scratches so the coating locks in a clean finish.
  4. Panel wipe. This removes polishing oils so the coating can bond directly to the clear coat.
  5. Hand application. The coating goes on panel by panel, indoors, away from dust and heat.
  6. Curing. The car cures in controlled conditions before it goes back out into the sun.
  7. Handover. We show you the result under studio lights and explain the aftercare.

We are Gtechniq accredited and work from a 20,000 sq ft studio in Al Quoz with controlled installation bays. You can see the process on a real car in our Rolls-Royce Cullinan paint correction and ceramic coating build.

How much does ceramic coating cost in Dubai?

Ceramic coating pricing depends on the car and the package; send your car details on WhatsApp for an exact quote. Prices vary a lot across Dubai, and a very cheap quote usually means the paint correction has been skipped.

The main things that change the price are:

  • Car size. A coupe needs less product and time than a large SUV.
  • Paint condition. A brand new car needs far less correction than a car with years of swirls.
  • Coating level. Single layer, multi layer and premium options cost different amounts.
  • Extras. Wheels, glass and trim can all be coated as well.

For a full breakdown of what goes into a quote, read our guide to how much ceramic coating costs in Dubai. If you are weighing it against film, full-body PPF at Apex starts from AED 12,000 for sedans and AED 13,500 for SUVs and trucks (colour PPF from AED 15,000), depending on options, before 5% VAT.

Is ceramic coating worth it in the UAE, and how do you look after it?

A professional ceramic coating is worth it if you plan to keep the car for more than a year, wash it regularly and want it to keep looking good with less effort. It is less useful if the car goes through automatic brush washes every week, because those will wear any coating down.

Aftercare is simple but it matters:

  • Hand wash with the two bucket method and a pH neutral shampoo.
  • Avoid automatic brush car washes.
  • Remove bird droppings and bug splatter as soon as you see them.
  • Rinse sand off with water rather than wiping it dry.
  • Dry with a clean microfibre towel or a blower.
  • Book maintenance washes with us so the coating is checked and refreshed.

Frequently asked questions

Should I ceramic coat a brand new car?

Yes, it is a good time to do it. Transport and dealer washes often leave light marks, so we inspect and lightly correct the paint before coating it.

Can ceramic coating go on top of PPF?

Yes. Coating over paint protection film is common for our PPF clients, because it adds gloss and makes the film easier to clean.

Can I drive the car straight after ceramic coating?

Yes, you can drive home after handover. We will tell you how long to wait before the first wash.

Does ceramic coating remove scratches?

No. Paint correction removes swirls and light scratches first, then the coating is applied over the corrected paint.

Can you coat wheels, glass and trim too?

Yes. Wheels, glass and exterior trim can be coated as extras alongside the paint.

Is ceramic coating worth it on a white or light coloured car?

Yes. The gloss gain is most visible on dark paint, but light colours still benefit from easier cleaning, UV protection and resistance to bird dropping and water spot etching.

Will ceramic coating stop stone chips on the highway?

No. A coating is too thin to absorb stone impacts. Paint protection film is what stops chips, and the two can be combined.
