Solid CO2 pellets are blasted at high velocity onto the surface. On impact they turn straight from solid to gas, and in doing so they lift away grime, grease and oxidation. Nothing wet touches the car and nothing gritty is left behind, which is exactly what an old car needs.

The pellets also reach into crevices, engine bays and undercarriages without the car being taken apart. Why do classic cars need special cleaning?

Classic cars need special cleaning because their paint is thinner, their seams are often unsealed, their rubber gaskets are old and many mechanical parts are exposed, so methods that are fine on a new car can damage them.

Pressure washing is the clearest example. On a car from the 1960s, 1970s or 1980s, high-pressure water can force its way into unsealed seams and behind old gaskets, where it sits and causes corrosion. Strong degreasers can attack old rubber and stain original finishes. Abrasive cleaning can wear through thin paint or remove factory markings that a collector would never be able to replace.

How do we restore a classic car with dry ice, step by step?

We restore classic cars with dry ice in five steps: inspection and preparation, underbody cleaning, engine bay restoration, surface conditioning and finishing.

1. Inspection and prep. We inspect the chassis, engine bay, suspension and interior with the owner, then mask fragile parts such as original wiring and leather.
2. Underbody cleaning. Dry ice removes years of grime, road salt and oil from underneath. This also reveals any hidden rust, so the owner knows exactly what condition the car is in.
3. Engine bay restoration. We remove grease, dirt and fuel stains while protecting OEM hoses, clamps and factory paint. Decals and part numbers are left untouched.
4. Surface conditioning. Where needed, we apply polish or ceramic protection. Because dry ice removes so much on its own, it often removes the need for abrasive polishing.
5. Finishing. Upholstery care, trim revival and documentation of the work, so the owner has a record for the car’s history file.
