Interior PPF is clear, self-healing film cut to fit piano black trim, touchscreens and centre consoles, so rings, keys and cleaning cloths mark the film instead of the factory surface. At Apex Detail Studio, interior protection film starts from AED 2,000 before 5% VAT. It is best fitted when the car is new.

Interior PPF is a thin, optically clear urethane film applied to high-wear interior surfaces. It works like exterior paint protection film, absorbing scratches and recovering from light swirls with warmth, but it is cut and trimmed for trim pieces and screens rather than body panels.
Piano black is the problem it solves. Almost every premium car now uses it: the console on a Range Rover Sport, the door panels on a Mercedes S-Class, the surround of a BMW iDrive controller. It looks superb in the showroom and starts collecting swirls within weeks. Dust here is fine and gritty, and every wipe with a dry cloth drags it across the surface. Add 50°C cabin temperatures in summer, keys thrown into cupholders and watch bracelets brushing the gear selector, and new trim can look worn before the first service.
What does interior PPF protect?
Interior PPF protects any smooth, hard surface that scratches easily: piano black trim, touchscreens, digital instrument clusters and gloss panels around switches. It does not go on leather, fabric, Alcantara or textured plastics.
| Area | Typical damage | Film choice | Typical cars |
|---|---|---|---|
| Centre console and gear selector surround | Swirls from keys, phones and bracelets | Gloss | Range Rover, BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne |
| Central touchscreen | Fine scratches, fingerprints, glare | Gloss or matte | Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, Mercedes MBUX |
| Digital instrument cluster | Scratches from cleaning cloths | Gloss or matte | Audi virtual cockpit, BMW curved display |
| Door switch panels | Rings and nails scratching around buttons | Gloss | Mercedes S-Class, G-Class, BMW 7 Series |
| Gloss trim strips and B-pillars | Seatbelt buckle and bag scuffs | Gloss | Most premium SUVs |
| Wireless charging pad surround | Phone case abrasion | Gloss | Most cars from 2020 on |
Exterior gloss-black pieces, such as B-pillars and window surrounds, suffer the same swirls from washing. These can be filmed at the same time as the interior.

How much does interior PPF cost in Dubai?
At Apex Detail Studio, interior protection film starts from AED 2,000, before 5% VAT. The final figure depends on how many pieces your car has and how complex they are to fit.
A Tesla Model 3 with one screen and a small console is quick. A Range Rover with twin screens, a long console, door panels and gloss pillars is a much larger job. These are the inputs that move the quote:
- Number of surfaces. Screens only, or screens plus console, doors and pillars.
- Shape. Flat screens are simple; curved consoles and recessed switch panels take longer.
- Existing condition. Swirled piano black may need polishing before film goes on.
- Film finish. Gloss or matte, and whether screens and trim use different finishes.
Many owners add interior film to an exterior package. Full PPF starts from AED 12,000 for sedans and AED 13,500 for SUVs and trucks, and colour PPF from AED 15,000, depending on options, before 5% VAT. See the full breakdown in our PPF price guide for Dubai.
Gloss or matte film on a touchscreen: which is better?
Gloss film keeps the screen looking factory-fresh and sharp. Matte film reduces glare and hides fingerprints, which helps in Dubai sun, but it softens the image slightly.
Here is how we usually advise. If the car has a large screen that catches direct sunlight through the windscreen, such as a Tesla Model Y, matte film makes a real difference to readability at midday. If you care most about colour and sharpness, and the cabin is shaded, gloss is the better match. Piano black trim almost always gets gloss, because matte film would visibly change its look.
Can you polish piano black trim instead?
You can, but only a few times. Piano black is a thin lacquer over plastic, and every polishing session removes some of it. Polishing fixes existing swirls; film stops new ones.
The best order is to correct first, then protect. If your trim already has light swirls, we polish it by hand before the film goes on, because film seals in whatever is underneath. On a new car, the trim usually needs only a careful clean, which is why delivery week is the ideal time.
Is interior PPF safe for screens, sensors and airbags?
Yes, when it is fitted correctly. Clear film does not affect touchscreen response, and good installers keep film clear of airbag deployment seams, light sensors and microphone openings.
We check each piece before cutting. Some passenger dashboards have airbag seams hidden behind gloss trim, and some consoles have ambient light sensors or capacitive buttons. Each is left uncovered or cut around so the car behaves exactly as designed.
How do I clean interior PPF?
Use a clean, soft microfibre cloth with a mild interior cleaner or plain water. Avoid paper towels, household glass sprays with ammonia and anything abrasive.
- Wipe in straight lines, not circles, with light pressure.
- Keep a separate cloth for screens so grit from door pockets does not transfer.
- Let film settle for a few days before heavy cleaning around edges.
- Small swirls in the film usually fade as the cabin warms, which happens fast in a Dubai summer.
For exterior care and finishes, our guide on protecting matte paint with premium satin PPF follows the same logic, and the manufacturer publishes general film care guidance too.
How Apex Detail Studio does it
Interior film is installed in our 20,000 sq ft Al Quoz studio by the same manufacturer-accredited team of 41 that handles exterior PPF. The process is short but strict.
- Inspection. We identify every gloss surface, screen and sensor, and note airbag seams before quoting.
- Deep clean. Dust, oils and fingerprints are removed so nothing is trapped under the film.
- Correction where needed. Light swirls in piano black are polished out by hand.
- Precut pieces. Patterns are adjusted in software and plotter-cut for each trim piece, keeping blades away from the interior.
- Installation. Film is laid and edges set, cut clear of sensors, buttons and airbag openings.
- Final inspection. Every piece is checked under studio lighting for dust, edges and touch response.

Frequently asked questions
Is interior PPF worth it?
For a new premium car with large piano black and screen areas, yes. These surfaces scratch from normal use and cleaning, and polishing them repeatedly thins the lacquer. Film costs less than replacing trim and keeps the cabin looking new for resale. On an older car with already worn trim, correct first, then decide.
How much is interior PPF in Dubai?
At Apex Detail Studio, interior protection film starts from AED 2,000, before 5% VAT. The final price depends on how many surfaces you cover, their shape and whether the trim needs polishing first. Send your model and the areas you want covered on WhatsApp for an exact quote.
Does screen protector film affect touch sensitivity?
No. Properly installed clear film does not change how the touchscreen responds. Matte film slightly softens image sharpness in exchange for less glare and fewer fingerprints. Gloss film looks closest to the bare screen. Either way, the film is cut clear of light sensors and physical buttons.
Can interior PPF be removed?
Yes. Interior film peels off without damaging the factory piano black or screen when removed carefully with gentle warmth. That makes it a low-risk choice for leased cars or cars you plan to sell, since the original surface underneath stays protected and unmarked.
Should I put PPF on piano black on a new car?
Yes, ideally in the first weeks. New trim usually needs only a careful clean, so the job is quicker and nothing gets sealed under the film. Once swirls appear, the trim must be polished first, which removes some of the thin lacquer layer each time.
Which areas of the interior should I protect first?
Start with the surfaces your hands touch most: the centre console, gear selector surround, touchscreen and door switch panels. Then add the digital cluster and gloss pillars if budget allows. On SUVs with a wireless charging pad, the surround is another common scratch point.
