One studio quotes a figure for a quick wipe-on over unprepared paint. Another quotes several times more for two days of correction followed by a professional-only coating. Both are called ceramic coating.

The local conditions explain why preparation matters so much here. Fine sand turns weekly washing into slow abrasion. Hard water dries on the paint in minutes in 45°C heat. A three-year-old black Range Rover Sport or Mercedes-AMG GLE will almost always need correction before a coating is worth applying.

How much does paint correction add to the cost?

Paint correction is often the biggest single line on a ceramic coating quote. It is labour-heavy, and the time depends on the paint, not the coating.

A ceramic coating locks in the surface beneath it. Coat over swirls and the swirls stay, now with extra gloss on top. That is why correction comes first. There are three broad levels:

• Enhancement polish (one step). For new or well-maintained cars. Removes light haze and dealership wash marks and maximises gloss.
• Two-step correction. For daily drivers with visible swirls. A cutting stage removes most defects, then a finishing stage refines the gloss.
• Multi-step correction. For neglected or dark paint with heavy swirls, holograms or water spot etching. Takes the longest and costs the most.

Does the coating product change the price?

Yes. Professional-only coatings cost more because they must be applied by an accredited installer and are built for longer life. Consumer-grade coatings cost less and need reapplying sooner.

A very low price usually means less preparation, an unnamed product or no indoor curing. None of these show on collection day. They show in the first three to six months.

2. Is correction included? And at what level, one-step or more.
3. Where does it cure? Coatings need time in a clean, controlled space before the car meets dust or water.

5. What is covered? Paint only, or wheels, glass and trim too.
