The difference is where they go and what they do. A glass coating bonds to the outside of the glass to change how water and dirt behave on it. Window tint is a film fitted to the inside of the glass to control how much light and heat comes through.

What does a glass coating actually do?
A glass coating makes the outer surface of the glass strongly water repellent, so rain and washing water bead up and run off, taking dust and sand with them. At highway speed, beaded water clears from the windscreen more easily, which helps visibility in a sudden storm.
It also makes bug splatter, coastal salt haze and morning dust easier to clean off. It does not block heat, reduce glare or add privacy.
The glass must be deep cleaned and water spots removed first, or the coating locks them in.
What does window tint actually do?
Window tint reduces the solar energy coming into the cabin. A quality film cuts infrared heat, blocks most UV, reduces glare and adds privacy, which is why it matters so much in a UAE summer.
Darkness and heat rejection are not the same thing. Some light films reject more heat than cheaper dark ones, because heat rejection comes from the film’s construction rather than its shade. Can a glass coating replace window tint, or the other way round?
No. A glass coating will not make the cabin cooler, and tint will not make rain bead on the outside of the glass. If your main complaint is heat, glare or a hot steering wheel, you need tint. If your main complaint is a windscreen that smears, streaks or stays dirty, a glass coating helps.

Coated glass should be washed with a gentle shampoo and dried; new tint should be left alone for the first few days while it dries.
- Do not roll down tinted windows for the period your installer advises.
- Clean the inside of tinted glass with a soft microfibre and an ammonia-free cleaner.
- Avoid abrasive glass polishes on coated glass unless you plan to recoat.
