The film type is the biggest cost difference, because heat rejection, clarity and lifespan vary a lot between technologies. Darkness is not the same as heat rejection, which is why a light ceramic film can outperform a dark dyed one.

• Dyed film absorbs light with dye. It is the cheapest option, but it does little against infrared heat and the dye can break down in strong sun, turning purple over time.
• Carbon film uses carbon particles for a matte, stable colour and better heat rejection than dyed film, at a moderate price.
