Quick answer: This red Tesla Model X was transformed to emerald green at Apex Detail Studio using full colour-change paint protection film, paired with peelable paint on the inner areas so the new colour carries through when the doors open. Unlike a respray, colour PPF changes the look while protecting the original red paint underneath, and it can be removed later. The whole job was finished in-house at our Al Quoz studio.

Changing a car’s colour used to mean a respray: weeks off the road, factory paint gone for good, and a hit to resale on many cars. Colour-change PPF has changed that. The new colour arrives as a thick, self-healing film, and the original paint stays underneath, protected.
The Model X is a particularly interesting car to colour change, because its falcon-wing rear doors open upwards and show far more of the door shuts and openings than a normal car. Get those inner areas wrong and the old colour flashes every time the doors go up. Here is how this one went from red to emerald green.
What was done to this Tesla Model X?
The exterior painted panels were covered in emerald green colour-change PPF, and the inner areas that film does not normally reach were finished with peelable paint in a matching colour.
| Area | Method | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Exterior painted panels | Colour-change PPF | New colour plus protection for the original paint |
| Inner areas, such as shuts and openings | Peelable paint | Keeps the new colour consistent when the doors are open |
| Original red paint | Left untouched underneath | Preserved for the future and for resale |

Why choose colour PPF instead of a respray or vinyl wrap?
Colour PPF combines a colour change with real paint protection, and it is fully reversible.
| Colour PPF | Vinyl wrap | Respray | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Protects original paint | Yes, absorbs chips and scratches | Limited | No, replaces it |
| Self-healing | Yes, light swirls heal with heat | No | No |
| Reversible | Yes | Yes | No |
| Finish depth | Deep gloss like paint | Varies by product | Paint |

Why do the inner areas matter on a Model X?
Because the falcon-wing doors put the door shuts and openings on display. On most cars, a colour change that stops at the panel edges is only noticeable when a door is open. On a Model X, the rear doors lift high and wide, so the original colour inside would be obvious to anyone standing nearby.
Peelable paint solves that. It is applied to the inner areas the film does not cover, matched to the new colour, and it can be peeled away later if the owner wants to return to the factory red. The result is a consistent emerald green whether the doors are open or closed.
How did Apex Detail Studio carry out the colour change?
- Inspection. We checked the paint, panel gaps, sensors and any existing film or repairs.
- Deep clean and decontamination. Every panel was washed and decontaminated so the film bonds cleanly.
- Pattern work. Panels were planned to wrap edges wherever safe, so red does not show at the edges.
- Film installation. The emerald green film was laid panel by panel, with careful work around the falcon-wing doors, sensors and cameras.
- Inner areas. The shuts and openings were masked and finished with peelable paint.
- Final inspection. Every edge, seam and inner area was checked with the doors open and closed before handover.
Everything was done in-house, by the same team that handles our clear PPF work. Our installation process guide shows each stage in detail.

Do you need to tell the RTA about a colour change?
In the UAE, the colour on a vehicle’s registration is expected to match the car. Requirements can change, so confirm with the RTA before or after a colour change whether the registration needs updating, and keep the workshop invoice. Our colour change planning guide covers this in more detail.
How much does a colour-change PPF cost?
Colour PPF is quoted per car after inspection, because the colour, the size of the vehicle, the inner areas and the doors all change the scope. A Model X, with its large panels and falcon-wing doors, is a bigger job than a typical sedan. Send your car’s details on WhatsApp for a first figure. Frequently asked questions
How did Apex change the Tesla Model X from red to green?
The exterior painted panels were covered with emerald green colour-change PPF, and the inner areas were finished with matching peelable paint. The original red paint was left untouched underneath and is protected by the film.
Is colour PPF better than a vinyl wrap?
Colour PPF is thicker, self-healing and protects the paint from chips and scratches, while also changing the colour. Vinyl wraps change the colour but offer limited protection. Both can be removed, but colour PPF gives more protection for the original paint.
Can colour PPF be removed later?
Yes. Colour PPF can be removed by a professional installer, returning the car to its original colour. The peelable paint on the inner areas can also be peeled away.
Why use peelable paint on the inner areas of a Model X?
The falcon-wing doors expose the door shuts and openings much more than normal doors. Peelable paint matches those inner areas to the new colour so no red shows when the doors are open, and it can be removed later.
How much does a colour change PPF cost in Dubai?
Colour PPF is quoted per car after inspection, because colour, vehicle size, inner areas and door design all affect the scope. Send the car’s details on WhatsApp to +971 58 549 2739 for a first figure.
Does a colour change need to be registered with the RTA?
The registered colour is expected to match the car in the UAE. Rules can change, so confirm with the RTA whether your registration needs updating and keep the workshop invoice.
