What is Tesla PPF and why do Teslas in Dubai need it?
Tesla PPF is a clear or satin urethane film that we fit over a Tesla’s exterior to absorb stone chips, scratches, stains and UV exposure before they reach the paint. Teslas in Dubai need it because their factory paint is relatively soft and thin, and the UAE adds extreme heat, sand and fast highway driving on top.
Summer in Dubai pushes surface temperatures far above 45°C, and long hours in open car parks fade and oxidise unprotected paint. Gravel on the highways chips bonnets and front bumpers, while fine sand and dust act like sandpaper during a careless wash. Watermarks and fingerprints are a constant on darker Teslas.
Paint protection film takes that punishment instead of the paint. Its topcoat self-heals light scratches and swirls with heat, it resists staining, and it can be removed later to reveal the original finish underneath.
Which XPEL film is best for a Tesla, gloss or Stealth?
XPEL Ultimate Plus is the right film when you want to keep the Tesla’s factory gloss, and XPEL Stealth is the right film when you want a matte or satin look with the same protection. Both are self-healing films and both are cut on precut patterns.
| Film | Finish | What it protects against | Typical choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| XPEL Ultimate Plus | Clear gloss | Rock chips, road debris, scratches, watermarks, oxidation | Owners who like the factory colour as it is |
| XPEL Stealth | Matte or satin | The same protection as Ultimate Plus | Owners who want their Tesla to stand out |
Both films carry a manufacturer warranty and our team explains the terms when you collect the car. We go deeper into the finish choice in our Tesla matte vs gloss guide, and owners of the Model Y can see real satin builds in our Tesla Model Y PPF hub.

How does PPF differ across the Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X?
The film and the method stay the same across the Tesla range; what changes is the panel count, the shape of the panels and how much of the car most owners choose to cover. Each model has its own precut pattern set.
- Model 3: the most common Tesla on Dubai roads, with a low nose that takes a lot of chips. See our Tesla Model 3 PPF guide.
- Model Y: a taller crossover with a large frontal area and wide rear arches that collect grit thrown up by the wheels.
- Model S: a long, low saloon with big flat panels where clarity of the film really shows.
- Model X: the falcon-wing doors and large glass areas need careful planning around edges and seals.
On every model we keep film clear of camera lenses and work around the charge port, door handles and mirrors so they keep working exactly as Tesla designed them.
How do you protect a Tesla Cybertruck in Dubai?
We protect the Cybertruck with XPEL Ultimate Plus or XPEL Stealth fitted over its stainless steel body, often paired with window tint. The film guards the steel against scratches, watermarks, fingerprints and staining, which show clearly on the Cybertruck’s bare finish.
The Cybertruck is Tesla’s most radical vehicle, and its flat stainless steel panels behave very differently from painted bodywork. Fingerprints and water spots are the everyday complaint, and a scratch in bare steel is not something you can simply polish out like clear coat. Film solves both problems and also lets owners change the look completely.
We have done three very different Cybertruck jobs at our Al Quoz studio:
- A Cybertruck Cyberbeast in satin black Stealth PPF.
- A Cybertruck in gloss black colour PPF.
- A Cybertruck window tint job using 30% XPEL XR Plus.

Can PPF or tint interfere with Tesla Autopilot sensors?
Badly fitted PPF or tint can interfere with Tesla’s Autopilot cameras and sensors, which is why we use precision precut patterns that leave camera and sensor areas clear, and sensor-friendly tint films. Fitted properly, the car’s driver assistance works as normal.
Teslas rely on cameras around the body and, on many cars, ultrasonic sensors in the bumpers. A film edge or a trapped bubble over one of those areas can cause warnings or degraded performance. Precut patterns follow the factory openings exactly, so the installer is not improvising with a blade near a sensor.
The same care applies to tint. We choose films that do not disturb the cameras behind the windscreen and that suit Dubai’s legal limits for each window.
How do we fit PPF on a Tesla at Apex?
We prepare the paint carefully, then fit precision precut film in our controlled installation bays so there are no air bubbles, distortion or lift lines. Tesla paint is soft, so preparation is gentle and deliberate to avoid adding swirls.
- Inspection: every panel checked under studio lighting.
- Wash and decontamination: removing dirt, dust and bonded contaminants. We take care with water around battery and charging areas and use suitable cleaning methods there.
- Paint correction where needed: removing light defects so they are not sealed under the film.
- Precut patterns: designed on DAP precut software and cut on the plotter, not on the car.
- Installation and edges: fitted by our in-house XPEL accredited team, with edges finished cleanly.
- Final inspection: checking for bubbles, lifting and alignment before handover.
Our 20,000 sq ft studio gives each Tesla a controlled bay, which matters most on satin Stealth film where dust shows more. Full service details are on our paint protection film page.

Should Tesla owners add ceramic coating and window tint?
Many Tesla owners add Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra ceramic coating over the film and XPEL XR Plus window tint, because together they cover gloss, easy washing, UV and cabin heat as well as chip protection. PPF handles physical impacts; coating and tint handle the rest.
The ceramic coating adds a hard, hydrophobic layer that sheds water and dust and resists UV and chemical etching, which makes weekly washing much easier in Dubai. Window tint rejects infrared heat and glare, keeps the cabin cooler and reduces how hard the air conditioning has to work, which helps an electric car’s energy use. We choose tint percentages to suit Dubai’s legal limits and your preference.
We are XPEL and Gtechniq accredited, so all three layers are fitted by the same in-house team.

How should you look after a Tesla with PPF in Dubai?
Look after a Tesla with PPF by hand washing it with a pH-neutral shampoo, rinsing dust off before you touch the surface, and avoiding brush car washes and dry wiping. The film does the protecting; good washing keeps it looking clear.
Dubai dust is the main enemy of any finish. Wiping a dusty Tesla with a dry cloth drags fine sand across the film and leaves marks, so always pre-rinse first. Wash in the shade or early in the morning, because water and shampoo dry almost instantly on a hot panel and leave spots. On Stealth film, avoid waxes and polishes that add gloss, since they can leave patchy shine on a satin surface.
Bird droppings and tree sap should come off quickly; the film resists staining, but in summer heat anything acidic bakes on fast. Light swirls in the film relax with heat, and a few hours parked outside in the UAE sun is usually enough. If an edge ever lifts after a pressure washer gets too close, bring the car back so our team can check it rather than trimming it yourself.
A ceramic coating over the film makes all of this easier, because dust and water slide off the surface with far less effort.

How much does Tesla PPF cost in Dubai?
Full-body PPF on a Tesla at Apex starts from AED 12,000 for sedans and AED 13,500 for SUVs and trucks (colour PPF from AED 15,000), depending on options, before 5% VAT. The model, the choice between Ultimate Plus and Stealth, and the amount of paint preparation are what move the final figure.
A Cybertruck, a Model X and a Model 3 have very different surface areas and pattern complexity, so we quote each car individually. For ceramic coating and window tint, pricing depends on the car and the package; send your car details on WhatsApp for an exact quote.
Frequently asked questions
Which PPF does Apex use on Teslas?
We use XPEL Ultimate Plus for a gloss finish and XPEL Stealth for a matte or satin finish.
Can PPF go on a Cybertruck’s stainless steel body?
Yes. The film bonds to the stainless steel and protects it from scratches, fingerprints and water spots.
Is Tesla paint really softer than other cars?
Tesla paint is relatively soft and thin, so it marks easily and needs gentle preparation before film goes on.
Will PPF affect my Tesla’s cameras?
Not when it is fitted with precut patterns that keep camera and sensor areas clear, which is how we do it.
Can I remove Tesla PPF later?
Yes. Quality film can be removed without harming the paint, and we recommend having it removed professionally.
What tint did you use on the Cybertruck?
On one recent Cybertruck we fitted 30% XPEL XR Plus, chosen to suit Dubai’s legal limits and the owner’s preference.
Does window tint help a Tesla’s range?
Tint keeps the cabin cooler, so the air conditioning works less hard, which helps reduce energy use.
How soon can I wash my Tesla after PPF?
Give the film time to cure before the first wash, and our team will tell you the exact timing at handover. After that, gentle hand washing is best.
