This Lotus Emira came to Apex Detail Studio in Al Quoz, Dubai, for a full detail and Gtechniq EXO V5 ceramic coating. We decontaminated the paint, ran a multi-stage paint correction to remove swirls and fine scratches, prepped with Gtechniq Panel Wipe and then coated the car. What did we do to this Lotus Emira?

We gave this Lotus Emira a full exterior detail, corrected the paint in several stages and then applied Gtechniq EXO V5 ceramic coating, so the paint now has a sharper gloss and a slick, water-repelling surface.

The Emira is a lightweight sports car with a lot of curved, sculpted bodywork. Its paint is the first thing people notice, and in Dubai it is also the first thing to suffer. Strong UV, regular sandstorms and the swing between hot days and cooler nights all work against a car’s clear coat. Fine swirls from washing show up quickly on a dark or metallic finish, and dust settles on every horizontal surface within hours.

How was the Emira detailed and coated?

The coating is only as good as the paint underneath it, so most of the work on this Emira went into preparation before the Gtechniq EXO V5 went on.

1. Decontamination wash: we washed the car with a pH-neutral shampoo and a foam treatment to lift dirt and grime and remove any previous wax or old coating from the paint.
2. Multi-stage paint correction: we machine polished the paint in stages to remove swirl marks and fine scratches. A coating locks in whatever is underneath, so any defect left at this point would stay visible.
3. Panel Wipe: we wiped every panel with Gtechniq Panel Wipe to remove polishing oils and residues, so the coating could bond directly to clean paint.
4. Coating application: we applied Gtechniq EXO V5 panel by panel and left it to cure before handover.
