Does PPF stop stone chips?
Yes, for most everyday stone chips. PPF is a thick, flexible urethane film that spreads and absorbs the energy of a small stone, so the impact marks the film rather than chipping the paint. That is the main reason people fit it.
Very large or sharp stones at high speed can still cut through the film, and in rare cases dent the panel. When that happens, the damaged panel can be re-filmed without repainting, which costs far less than a paint repair. Does PPF protect against scratches?
PPF protects against light scratches, such as wash marks, fingernail marks around door handles and brushes from bags or clothing. Premium films have a self-healing top coat, so these light marks fade when the film warms up in the sun or under warm water.

Does PPF protect against sand, bird droppings and chemicals?
Yes, within limits. Sand blasting along the bumper, sills and rear arches wears the film instead of the clear coat. Bird droppings, bug splatter and tree sap sit on the film surface rather than etching straight into the paint.
