What makes a black G63 hard to keep perfect?
Black looks superb on a G63, and it is also the hardest colour to look after. Every sand scratch, wash swirl and water spot shows on black paint, and the G63 has a lot of it: tall flat doors, a flat bonnet and wide flared arches that catch grit thrown up by the big wheels and tyres. The upright front takes stone chips head on at highway speed.

Preparation takes as long as the film itself on a car this size. The G63 was foam washed, the roof and spare wheel cover were cleaned by hand, the paint was decontaminated, and the car was dried with air so no water sits in the gaps.

How do you look after a black G63 after PPF?
- Wait about a week before the first wash so the film can settle.
- Rinse sand off thoroughly before any mitt touches the paint.
- Hand wash with a pH neutral shampoo and use the two bucket method.
- Dry with a soft microfibre or a blower to avoid water spots in the sun.
- Keep pressure washer nozzles away from film edges around the hinges and flares.
